The Olentangy Liberty boys golf team continued its hot start to the season, firing a combined 306 to take the team title at Tuesday’s Dublin Invitational.
The Patriots, clear of runner-up St. Xavier by five shots when all was said and done, were led by Trey Rath’s 72. Other contributors included Jacob Hickman, who carded a 74; Cole Corder, who closed with a 77; Kyle Mitchell, who finished with an 83; and Ronnie Foth, who had an 84.
“Today was a nice challenge with the weather and course conditions,” Liberty coach Ryan Snivley said. “There are no easy victories, and I’m glad the guys fought through today. I know they aren’t satisfied, and we will keep trying to get better.”
Olentangy was also in action Tuesday in Dublin, finishing sixth with a 317. Matthew Homza, who was four under heading into the last two holes for the second time this season, was the Braves’ low man with a 70. He finished second among individuals via a scorecard playoff. Garrett Varanelli (78), Garrett Leckrone (84), Ben Nash (85) and Cameron Casto (87) also contributed to the team’s cumulative scorecard.
GIRLS GOLF
Orange carded a combined 329 for the second straight league showcase, finishing second in Tuesday’s OCC event at Mental Memorial.
Riley Dean led the Pioneers with a 72 while Ashley Au was also solid, closing two shots behind with a 74. Other Orange scorers included Brittany Miller (85) and Emily Fisher (98).
While the 329 was good enough to clip Dublin Jerome in last week’s league opener, it wasn’t quite good enough this time as the Celtics fired a 315 to take top honors. Olentangy, thanks to scores from Leila Raines (74), Alex Cardi (80), Kara Raines (84) and Maddie Gwinn (98), finished third with a 336.
Liberty, Hayes and Big Walnut also competed, finishing fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
The Patriots, who counted scores from Priyasha Kota (78), Kavya Manocha (79), Makenna Brown (90) and Camryn Calus (95), carded a combined 342. Hayes had a 385 thanks to the efforts of Bailey Hager (85), Riley Geiger (99), Kelly Horvath (99) and Alyssa Stultz (102). Big Walnut, meanwhile, closed things out with a 444. Mikayla Colvin led the Golden Eagles with a 99 while Hannah Wilson (114), Jenna Allen (115) and Sydnie Wright (116) smoothed out the squad’s top four.
