Townsend scores 5 goals as Liberty cruises

The Olentangy Liberty girls soccer team is on a serious roll, most recently improving to 7-1-0 overall with a lopsided 12-2 league win over visiting Westerville South Tuesday in Powell.

Abby Townsend set the tone, scoring a pair of goals less than five minutes into the action. She added another to pick up a hat trick, this time off a feed from Lyndsey Kijowski, and assisted on a goal by Abby Jones to balloon the edge to 4-0 in the 10th minute.

Liberty never looked back.

Ellie Bambeck made it 5-0 before Townsend found the back of the net two more times to make it a 7-0 spread at the break.

Sophie Fallieras, Madison Rapier, Sydney Weaver, Jones and Sarina Dirrig added second-half goals while the Wildcats managed a pair of their own in the game’s late stages to account for the final margin.

Olentangy 2, Westerville North 1

The Braves stayed perfect in the OCC-Buckeye Division (2-0) as Melina Endsley and Julia Scott scored to lead them to a win over the visiting Warriors Tuesday in Lewis Center.

BOYS SOCCER

Oliver Person scored on a flick header from a Gabe Anichowski throw in to break a 1-1 tie early in the second half, and Logan Jennings stopped a pair of point-blank shots in the final minutes to preserve the lead and lift Liberty to a 2-1 league win over host Westerville South Tuesday night.

Jared Whitfield also scored in the win.

Olentangy 5, Westerville North 1

Nick Conway scored three goals while Matt Vogel and Ryan Skinner added tallies of their own to lead the Braves to a solid league win over the host Warriors Tuesday in Westerville.

Also: Hayes 0, Hilliard Bradley 0; New Albany 2, Big Walnut 0.

VOLLEYBALL

Delaware Christian won in straight sets Tuesday, handling visiting Madison Christian 25-12, 25-17, 25-13.

Abbey Evans led all hitters with 10 kills while adding nine digs and four aces for the Eagles. Other DCS standouts included Sarah Rosato (nine kills, three aces), Brianna Blackburn (27 assists) and Mary Kerins (17 digs).

GIRLS TENNIS

Orange notched a non-league win over visiting Hayes Tuesday in Lewis Center, winning on all five courts.

Pioneer wins belonged to Hannah Logan (6-1, 6-3 at first singles), Mary Damko (6-0, 6-0 at second singles), Izzy Prislusky (6-2, 7-5 at third singles), Kortney Reed and Abby Butler (6-0, 6-1 at first doubles) and Heather Barnes and Kayla Walker (6-0, 6-0 at second doubles).

Big Walnut 4, Westerville North 1

The Golden Eagles were solid Tuesday in Westerville, winning both doubles matches and two of three on the singles courts to top the host Warriors.

Lindsay Hill and Lexie Kirkpatrick earned the singles wins. Hill won 6-3, 7-5 at first singles and Kirkpatrick outlasted her opponent at second singles in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Other BW wins belonged to Macie Kercsmar and Kayleigh Cummins (6-2, 6-1 at first doubles) and Maria Boyer and Anna Faust (6-1, 7-5 at second doubles).

GIRLS GOLF

Orange picked up a win over Watterson Tuesday, firing a combined 164 at Champions.

Alyssa Kim led the Pioneers, nabbing medalist honors with a 38. Other Orange scorers included Ashley Au (40), Riley Dean (42), Brittany Miller (44) and Emily Fisher (47).
