The Buckeye Valley girls basketball team won its second game in as many days Saturday, cruising past host Highland 52-33.
The Barons were consistent from start to finish. They allowed fewer than nine points in each quarter, including just eight in each of the first three.
The offense, meanwhile, was steady. BV put up 15 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 30-16 lead into halftime. The Barons outscored the Scots 9-8 in the third and 13-9 in the fourth to smooth out the scoring summary.
Morgan Scowden led Buckeye Valley with 17 points while Alaina Radcliffe chipped in 13.
Taylor Belcher was the only Highland player to reach double figures, finishing with 11 points in the setback. The Barons didn’t allow any other player to score more than six.
Ridgemont 59, Delaware Christian 35
The Eagles, playing with just seven girls, battled, but didn’t have enough in the tank to topple host Ridgemont Saturday afternoon.
DCS trailed by just seven, 23-16, at halftime, but was outscored 19-8 in the third quarter and 17-11 in the fourth.
Lyssi Snouffer led the Eagles with 16 points while Abbi Maurer pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds. Brianna Blackburn was also solid, finishing with eight points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
BOYS BOWLING
Buckeye Valley trailed after the first game, but finished strong to improve to a perfect 8-0 with a 2,284-2,155 win over Highland Saturday afternoon.
Jimmy Davis led the Barons with games of 162 and 256 for a team-best series of 418. Jacob Moeslein (400 series) and Leo Wells (393) also made some noise.
“These boys still have one thing on their minds: going back to the state tournament,” BV coach Madonna Wells said. “They have stayed focused and believe in each other. They don’t want to let each other down and are more worried about the win than who is the star of the day.”
GIRLS BOWLING
Buckeye Valley picked up a tight win over Highland Saturday, outlasting the Scots 1,794-1,728.
Tara McClure, who had games of 190 and 177, led the Barons. Madi Shearer was also consistent, finishing with games of 179 and 181.
