The Big Walnut softball team scored five times in each of the first two innings en route to a lopsided 12-2, five-inning win over visiting New Albany Wednesday in Sunbury.

The Golden Eagles finished with 15 hits in the win, none bigger than Alexyss Bullock’s three-run homer — a blast which ballooned the lead to 9-1 in the second inning.

Bullock finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Other BW standouts included Stacey Walters, who finished with three hits and three RBI; Jess Coletta and Taryn Hammond, who collected two hits apiece; and Meredith Thomas, who scored three runs.

Alex Thomas, meanwhile, pitched well to secure the win in the circle. She allowed two runs on four hits while striking out seven in five innings of action.

Westerville North 11, Olentangy 7

Sophie Low led the Braves, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Warriors’ 17-hit attack Wednesday in Lewis Center.

Westerville North scored three runs in the first to set the tone. It added four more in the third to take a 7-1 lead.

Olentangy battled back, scoring two runs in the third and two more in the fourth, but the Warriors plated a combined four runs in the final two innings to create some separation.

Kristen Bartel and Sydney Hall each finished with two hits and two RBI for the Braves.

BOYS TENNIS

Buckeye Valley secured its second win in as many days, handling River Valley 4-1 Wednesday afternoon.

Baron winners included Ben Swanger at second singles (6-2, 6-2), Nick Baesman at third singles (6-0, 6-2), Mitch Garnett and Kyle Baesman at first doubles (6-3, 6-3) and Jake Kehoe and Erik Naslund at second doubles (6-3, 6-3).

Hayes 4, Mount Vernon 1

The Pacers swept the doubles courts and won two of the three singles matches en route to a non-league win Wednesday afternoon.

Hayes standouts included Sam Bonofiglio, who won at second singles (6-1, 6-0); Ben Teitelbaum, who picked up a win at third singles (6-0, 6-1); the doubles duo of Ryan Williams and Eric Ullom, who won at first doubles (6-0, 7-6); and Eric Puthoff and Danny Brennan, who won at second doubles (6-1, 6-1).
