Just Hoops helps players Shoot-A-Way

If you’ve ever shot a basketball and, make or miss, been forced to chase down the rebound, you’ve probably thought to yourself, “self, there has to be a better way.”

Well, there is: Just Hoops by Shoot-A-Way.

It’s the first facility of its kind in Ohio and, lucky you, it’s right here in Delaware County (8612 Owenfield Dr. in Powell). You can thank director Brad Niley and owner and Shoot-A-Way inventor John Joseph for that.

“I live, teach and go to church in Delaware County,” Niley said. “I know parents in this county want what’s best for the children. They value a place where they can trust the people at the facility … they want kids to gain skills, stay in shape and learn how to be better people.

“The area also needs a basketball facility. There are soccer and volleyball facilities, but no basketball facility (until now). There needs to be a facility that’s solely focused on basketball, and we are happy to be providing that to the area.”

Just Hoops doesn’t have a full court … it’s not a place for players to go and play. It’s built to make players better.

With plenty of “Guns” to go around — state of the art shooting machines with nets to corral the ball and a gun to fire it right back at you — Niley said players can get up to 500 shots up in just 30 minutes. NBA teams and colleges use them … now you can too. The Guns will keep track of makes and misses, so you’ll be able to track your shooting percentage and help it creep higher and higher.

Just Hoops features the latest technology from Handle Fitness as well — ball-handling stations with hundreds of tiered drills. They incorporate tennis balls, cones, multiple basketballs and cardio drills into the routines to keep things fresh.

“Just Hoops is all about training basketball players,” Niley said. “We are here for people of all ages who like basketball. If you’re on a team, or wish to make a team, we have the technology and the people at our facility to help you get to the next level. If you’re looking to make the seventh-grade team, start varsity or continue your professional career, Just Hoops has what you need.”

Everything the facility has to offer will be available to members who purchase monthly memberships … except next week. Just Hoops will officially open its doors on Sunday for what will be an open house of sorts. It’ll be free until the end of the week, so that would be a good time to check it out.

Normally, six 30-minute sessions (3,000 shots per month) will run members $55 a month for six months or $65 for three. Members can get eight sessions for $70-$80 a month, depending on the length of the commitment, or 12 sessions for $85-$95 a month. One 30-minute session for non-members is $20.

Olentangy’s Haley Cera, who will be a sophomore in the fall, takes a shot at Just Hoops by Shoot-A-Way last month. The facility located at 8612 Owenfield Dr. in Powell, the first of its kind in Ohio, officially opens its doors Sunday.
