The Olentangy Orange volleyball team started the postseason in style, picking up a convincing three-set win over visiting Westerville South in the first round of the Division I district tournament Wednesday in Lewis Center.
The fourth-seeded Pioneers won the first set 25-16 before sealing the deal with wins of 25-10 and 25-16 in the second and third, respectively.
London Davis and Taylor Metzler led the attack with eight kills each while Carrigan O’Reilly ran the show with a game-high 29 assists.
Orange returns to action in Tuesday’s second round, when it’ll take on 19th-seeded Lancaster at 6 p.m. at Franklin Heights.
The second-seeded Golden Eagles were dominant in their D-II tourney opener, knocking off visiting Beechcroft 25-5, 25-7, 25-8 Wednesday in Sunbury.
Mac Podraza led the way with five kills and four aces. Other standouts included Alex Billings, who finished with five kills and two aces; Raegan Bickley, who had a game-best 10 aces; and Lauren Speelman, who finished with six aces in the win.
Seventh-seeded Buckeye Valley also picked up a first-round win, knocking off visiting Heath 25-16, 26-24, 25-9.
Both teams will play second-round showdowns next Thursday at Licking Heights. Big Walnut will play either sixth-seeded Licking Valley or 14th-seeded Columbus South at 6 p.m. while Buckeye Valley will square off with fourth-seeded London at 7:30.
Olentangy cruised Wednesday, hammering visiting Marion Harding 12-1 in a Division I district tournament opener in Lewis Center.
Matt Celona and Drew Clement had a pair of first-half goals to set the tone.
Next up, the eight-seeded Braves will host 46th-seeded Whitehall-Yearling Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Pioneers got a pair of goals from Grant Simon and another from Mariano Carvajal on the way to a 3-0 win over the visiting Irish in the first round of the Division I district tournament Wednesday in Lewis Center.
The win sets up a second-round showdown with 47th-seeded Newark Saturday back in Lewis Center. First kick is set for 7 p.m.
