Wildcats thump Barons in MOAC showdown

Madison Wedding got it done both in the circle and at the plate as North Union took it to the Buckeye Valley softball team 23-2 Wednesday night in Delaware.

“I told my players … it’s behind us,” Barons head coach Christine Crooks said. “This is a tough one — especially coming in off the high that we were on.”

Wedding retired the first nine batters she faced on her way to a complete-game performance headlined by 10 strikeouts.

The Wildcats scored 19 runs in the last two innings to blow the game open. Wedding, Josie Duncan and Kelsea Martin drove in four runs apiece. Duncan led North Union with four hits.

Allison Farthbruckner had two hits to lead the Barons, including a leadoff single in the fourth inning that broke up Wedding’s perfect start.

Fartbruckner scored both of the BV runs on RBI hits by Logan Hatcher and Kasey Morris.

The Barons continue MOAC play Friday night at Pleasant at 5:15 p.m.

Olentangy Orange 6, Olentangy 3

The Pioneers (4-4, 1-1) put all six runs on the board in the third inning on their way to a win over visiting Olentangy (3-1, 1-1) in OCC-Capital play Wednesday night in Lewis Center.

Alayna Kaschak hit a two-run single and Alyssa Laisure had a two-run double in the big inning to lead Orange. Kaschak, Laisure and Nina Sensibaugh had two hits apiece.

Emma Spinner had two hits for Olentangy.

Delaware Hayes 6, Big Walnut 0

Madi Huck tossed a one-hitter and homered to lead the Pacers (7-0, 2-0) past the Golden Eagles (2-3, 0-2) in OCC-Capital action Tuesday in Sunbury.

Lexi Mattix led the offense with three hits and drove in a run and scored a run. Huck had a pair of hits, including a two-run home run and Caylin Morstadt had a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored.

Rachael Brown had the Eagles’ only hit.
