County 4-H holds 75th banquet

The 75th annual Delaware County 4-H Volunteer and member recognition banquet was held Monday. The banquet is sponsored by the Delaware County 4-H Committee and hosted at All Occasions Catering banquet facility.

4-H volunteers were recognized in groups by number of years served from one through five then in five year increments. Service pins are presented to volunteers for each five years of volunteering, beginning with their fifth year completed.

Outstanding 4-H Club awards were presented to Ashley County Liners, Berlin 4-H’ers, Homegrown 4-Him, JJ’s E-Z Riders, and Sunbury Halter & Saddle.

A Friend of 4-H award was presented to Jackie Chivington.

4-H members received pin awards for outstanding achievement in specific projects areas. The awards are listed with the winner and their associated 4-H Club:

Beef, Sara Reed of Just Lopin’ Around; Community Service, Tyler Shuster of Sunbury Halter & Saddle; Dairy, Kate Sherman of Eagle Country; Dog, Hannah Ramsey of Scioto Dog Club; Foods & Nutrition, Dean Janowiecki of Set 4 Success; Gardening & Horticulture, Shannon Barr of Berlin 4-H’ers; Goats, Kendall Sestili of Elm Valley 4-H’ers; Health, Olivia Cardi, Sunbury Halter & Saddle; Horse, Aimee Dill of Successful Strides; Leadership, Kayla Kramer of Ostrander Merry Shamrocks; Mechanical & Engineering, Todd Herron of Elm Valley 4-H’ers; Rabbits, Kendall Sestili of Elm Valley 4-H’ers; Shooting Sports, Sara Reed of Just Lopin’ Around; Small Animal/Companion Animal, Jeri Janowiecki of Set 4 Success; Veterinary Science, Kendall Sestili of Elm Valley 4-H’ers; Secretary’s Book, Faith Grimes of Won By One; Treasurer, Kaitlin Meade of Kountry Kids.

Susan Bargar Memorial Horse Achievement Award is based on the achievements in and dedication to the Delaware County 4-H Horse program. The award was established and is presented by Susan Barger’s family. This year’s recipient is Clara Selle of Homegrown 4-Him.

Ashley Junior Fair Award recognizes outstanding achievement throughout the 4-H careers of the winners and was established by the Ashley Junior Fair when it was merged with the Delaware County Fair. Recipients are Sarah Lehner of Barnyard Busters and Madelyn Wecker of Kountry Kids.

Paul Cunningham Leadership Award was established by Paul Cunningham for individuals that exhibit outstanding leadership in Delaware County 4-H. Recipient is Kira Barr of Berlin 4-H’ers.

The Delaware County 4-H Hall of Fame was established in 2014. It was created to honor those that have been nominated for their contributions and service to Delaware County 4-H over time. This year’s inductees are Bill Thurston and Beth Harp.

Their pictures and award will be on display in the Extension Office until the next recipients are presented. Their names will be added to a perpetual plaque.
