Jack, Kay Hartman celebrate 50th

Dr. John K. (Jack) and Kay Franks Hartman celebrate their 50th anniversary June 11, 2017.

They were married June 11, 1967, at the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, Ohio, their hometown. Both graduated from Ashland High School. They lived in Ashland from 1967-1974 and in Bowling Green from 1974-2008. They have lived in rural Powell from 2008 to the present.

Kay holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bowling Green State University, where she retired after 23 years as a lecturer in education. She was a board member of the Children’s Resource Center for 28 years. She has been a Weight Watchers leader for 21 years.

Jack holds a bachelor’s, a master’s and a doctorate from BGSU. He was the sports editor of the Ashland Times-Gazette and a copy editor for the Toledo Blade. He retired as emeritus professor of journalism at Central Michigan University in 2005. He served on the Bowling Green board of education from 1978-1997. He is an alternate member of the Liberty Township Zoning Commission.

The Hartmans have three daughters: Kimberly (Jeremy) Brueck of Green, O.; Alicia (Jayson) Wolshire of Dublin, and Jacqueline (John) Ashley of Chapel Hill, N.C.

They have seven grandchildren: Isaac Kinaitis, Ian Kinaitis, Adam Wolshire, Ella Wolshire, Aiden Brueck, Samantha Ashley and Paige Ashley.

Jack and Kay celebrated their 50th with an Alaska cruise.
