Supporting Delaware City Schools levy

0

I am writing to show my support for the Delaware City Schools emergency operating levy on the Nov. 7 ballot.

I am a parent of four current DCS students who have been enrolled here for a combined total of 30 years. They have been given exceptional opportunities to date due to our community’s remarkable support for our educational system. Thanks to our current levy, my children have benefited from not only superior in-school experiences but also numerous extra-curricular activities such as Invention Convention, Dempsey Players, science fair, Destination Imagination, Business Professionals of America, Thespian Troop #420, Scripps National Spelling Bee, athletics, and College Credit Plus classes. My children have placed at the local, regional, state and even national levels in many different competitions. Through programs like these, our district is molding students into successful, ambitious young people who are an asset to our community.

Did you know that DCS already spends less per pupil than nearly every other Central Ohio school district, and 15 percent less than our state average? Due to wise allocation and spending, our schools have been able to provide an excellent educational experience while also stretching the current levy from a projected 3 to 4 year term to 6 years. I feel fortunate that the citizens of Delaware recognized the enormous growth of our student body and supported the previous levy used to fund the recent additions to several buildings. The new spaces have bettered every day learning for our students. By passing the current emergency levy, the citizens of Delaware would ensure that the district can continue their current day-to-day operations, guaranteeing funding for teachers, transportation, educational programming, and even basic utilities. Without this emergency levy, the resources and staff available to our students would diminish significantly. We need to safeguard our school and our students by showing our support for Delaware City Schools at the polling stations.

Our school system is the strong backbone of Delaware, making it a desirable place to raise a family. Stronger schools raise every homeowner’s property value. This matter is urgent! By passing this proposed levy, operations can go on as usual, without the district having to implement drastic cuts.

Please consider voting YES for the Delaware City Schools emergency operating levy on Nov. 7, 2017. Investing in our kids is money well spent!
