Delaware SWCD open house planned for Nov. 21

It’s that time of year again.

Time for the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District’s election of supervisors. The Delaware SWCD is guided by a five member board of supervisors, each of whom serve a three year term. These creative and energetic people are responsible for providing the long term vision of the SWCD.

The Ohio Revised Code Section 940 outlines the establishment of soil and water conservation districts along with the duties and powers of the board of supervisors. Highland County was the first to organize a soil and water conservation district in Ohio and this year signifies its 75th anniversary. Delaware SWCD has been Helping You Help the Land since 1944.

To celebrate our 73rd year we are hosting an open house on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Please stop by anytime from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bring us your conservation questions, visit with staff and board members, enjoy light refreshments, and see your neighbors and friends.

During the open house we will have a designated area for anyone wishing to vote to fill the vacancy to the board of supervisors. Two candidates are running for one vacancy, Ron Keil and Steve Sheets. Our website has all of the details on the candidates and the process for voting. Residents or landowners, as well as firms and corporations that own land or occupy land in the Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District, and are 18 years of age and older may vote for supervisor. A nonresident landowner, firm, or corporation must provide an affidavit of eligibility, which includes designation of a voting representative, prior to casting a ballot. The winning candidate will begin his three year term Jan. 1, 2018.

Check out www.delawareswcd.org or you may stop by the office at 557 A Sunbury Road or call us at 740-368-1921 with any questions. We look forward to seeing you on Nov. 21.
