Delaware County Treasurer Don Rankey Jr. has announced the results of the second round of property tax collections, which were due on July 11.

According to a press release issued on behalf of Rankey by Yocum Communications, second-half collections totaled $326.5 million, bringing the total for the year to $679.8 million. Of the county’s 89,662 parcels with second-half taxes due, 84,871 parcels were paid on time. There were 4,791 parcels that did not meet the second-half deadline, bringing the year’s delinquent taxes to more than $12.5 million.

“Only 4,791 parcels were delinquent, and that is only five percent of the county’s parcels,” Rankey said. “For a county our size, that is an excellent percentage, even though the delinquency increased from three to five percent for the second half of this year. Frankly, it still shows you that property owners in Delaware County take this responsibility seriously. They understand and appreciate the fact that property taxes pay for the vast majority of operations and capital projects for our schools, townships, and municipalities.”

In March, Rankey’s office reported that 90,182 of the county’s 92,860 parcels had paid the first half of the 2021 property taxes by the Feb. 10 deadline, a success rate of 97.1%. There were 7,989 parcels that were paid in full in February.

The first round of property taxes for the 2022 tax year will be due on Feb. 10, 2023. Rankey said the Treasurer’s Office is continuing to work on projects that will reduce the cost of online property tax payments and provide additional locations to accept payments in 2023.

Earlier this month, the Delaware County Board of Commissioners approved a 0.5-mill property tax rollback for one year. The reduction, which will decrease the property tax rate to 1.3 mills, will take effect on Jan. 1, 2023, and will be effective for only the 2022 tax year unless extended by the commissioners.
