The Olentangy Orange baseball team started strong and finished with a flourish, scoring nine runs over the course of the final three innings to notch an 11-1, six-inning win over visiting Big Walnut in a Division I sectional final Wednesday night in Lewis Center.

Already up 2-0, the seventh-seeded Pioneers added three more in the fourth to pull away for good. Tyler Fuller made it 4-0 with an RBI double before Ian Dando chased him home with a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

Nick Weiss came up with a two-out single to get the 37th-seeded Golden Eagles on the board in the fifth, but that’s as close as things got as Orange all but sealed the deal with a four-run bottom half.

Fuller, Cole Cahill, Diego Astacio, Josiah Ross and Evan Eichel had two hits apiece to power the Pioneers at the plate. Fuller and Eichel both knocked in a pair while Ross scored three times.

Cahill earned the complete-game win on the mound, allowing a run on four hits while striking out eight.

Next up, Orange will take on sixth-seeded Dublin Scioto Monday in Dublin. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

Olentangy Liberty 8, Whetstone 1

The Patriots scored at least one run in each of their first four trips to the plate, then added two more in the sixth to put the finishing touches on a convincing Division I sectional final win over 28th-seeded Whetstone Wednesday night in Powell.

Mason Onate led the charge, finishing 2-for-3 with a game-best three runs and an RBI. Blake Hajjar, Connor Mick and Josh Stickel also did plenty of damage, knocking in two runs apiece.

Brock Amelung earned the win on the mound, tossing 5.1 innings of one-run ball. He allowed just one hit and struck out seven.

The win sets up a showdown with 27th-seeded Westerville Central in Tuesday’s district semifinal in Powell. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

Olentangy Berlin 9, Chillicothe 4

The 36th-seeded Cavaliers scored four runs in the fourth to even things up, but the host and ninth-seeded Bears closed the game with five unanswered runs to close out a Division I sectional final win Wednesday night in Delaware.

Berlin, which will play 24th-seeded Gahanna Lincoln in Monday’s district semifinal, scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good, then added three more in the sixth just for good measure.

Jared Moeller led the way with three hits to go with three runs and an RBI. Parker McDaniels had a pair of hits and Nate Hurley, Ascher Dent and Maddox Pulliam had two RBI apiece.

Watkins Memorial 3, Olentangy 2, 8 inn.

Aydan Guthrie singled home Braden Hulse with the game-winning run with two down in the bottom of the eighth as the host and 14th-seeded Warriors edged the 17th-seeded Braves in a Division I sectional final Wednesday night in Pataskala.

The game was tight throughout. Olentangy scored the game’s first run in the first. Watkins plated single tallies in the third and fourth to take a 2-1 lead before the Braves evened things back up with a run in the seventh.

Brady Beaumont had two of Olentangy’s four hits while Guthrie finished 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Warriors.
