Tri-Township station on track

The new Tri-Township Fire Station on Bowtown Road is still on track to open at the end of the month.

“The time is quickly coming that the new station will be open and operational,” said Fire District Chief Troy Morris in Brown Township’s Spring Newsletter. “As of this writing we feel that the completion date will be May 31. As soon as we are able to move out of the temporary building and get into the new one, you can expect us to be on the move.”

That date is subject to change.

“We wish we could give you a date for these events, but we are at the mercy of the weather, an up and down supply chain and a whole host of other things that could keep us from our scheduled completion date,” Morris said.

Due to upcoming construction, the Tri-Township Fire District had to move across the street on Sunbury Road into the former American Freight building.

“As I hope everyone knows, the former station at the Point was sold to the State of Ohio for what is commonly known as the ‘Point Project,’” Morris wrote. “It was sad to leave the old place, lots of memories for many of us, but we realize that the building was barely meeting our needs and the timing of the road work was as good as time as we could hope for to look to the future and build a new station that would meet the needs of the District for at least another fifty years.”

Tri-Township also has a station at 660 Coover Road in Delaware.

“In addition to the grand opening of the new station, we will also be celebrating our 75th Anniversary,” Morris noted. “The District was created in 1948 as an association of townships. Later, through a vote, the District as we currently know it was formed. The District consists of Delaware, Brown and Troy Townships. In the original formulation, Berlin Township and the top portion of Liberty Township were also a part of the association. Liberty and Berlin left to form their own fire department and the remaining three continued to work together. The original station was in Stratford north of the current car dealership. In 1957, the station at the Point was constructed and until last year was the main station for the District.”

The new fire station will be next to the Byxbe Campus complex being built by Delaware County, 1610 state Route 521, Delaware. Northwest of the existing Delaware Area Career Center, which is being renovated to house various offices and departments, will be the Delaware County Sheriff’s administrative and patrol division offices. The sheriff’s offices adjoins the property where the new fire station is being built, Brown Township said. Construction on the government campus began in February 2022 and should open this summer.
