A Delaware man was sentenced to a year in prison Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to four counts of violating a protection order in 2015 in connection with holding a woman against her will last November.

Vernon William Davis Jr., 66, of 243 Penick Ave., was sentenced on four counts of violating a protection order, which are fourth-degree felonies, by Delaware County Common Pleas Judge David Gormley on Tuesday afternoon.

Court documents say the series of violations were committed between Oct. 7, 2015, and Nov. 4, 2015, in Delaware County. The violation of a protection order is in connection with Davis and a Delaware woman who obtained a protection order against him in 2006.

Davis originally pleaded not guilty to charges but changed his plea on Tuesday after reaching an agreement with prosecutors. As part of the agreement, prosecutors and Davis’ attorney, Todd Workman, jointly recommended a prison sentence of one year.

As part of the plea agreement, two counts of abduction, which are third-degree felonies; three counts of violating a protection order, fifth-degree felonies; and two counts of domestic violence and three counts of assault, all first-degree misdemeanors, were all dismissed.

Davis’ offenses included:

• On Oct. 7, police said Davis was seen inside the car of the woman yelling at her.

• On Oct. 24, police said a fight occurred at an address on Belle Avenue and Davis punched a Delaware man in the face and assaulted the woman who had the protection order against him.

• On Nov. 3, police said Davis had taken the woman into his vehicle against her will when officers stopped him. He was then arrested and charged with violating a protection order.

• On Nov. 4, Davis called the woman from jail and she reported the call to police. He was subsequently charged with another count of violating a protection order.

After reviewing a pre-sentence report, Gormley sentenced Davis to 12 months in prison for each of the four charges but said the terms will be served concurrently. Gormley added that Davis will be subject to three years of post-release probation and said may face fines or additional prison time if he violates probation.

Davis was credited 118 days he spent in the Delaware County Jail during the case.

Davis was in the Delaware County Jail Wednesday awaiting transport to prison.
