HelpLine of Delaware and Morrow Counties Inc. has announced that a new confidential text-messaging service is now available for 2-1-1/information and referral, as well as crisis support.

If you or someone you knows is in crisis or needs support, text “helpline” to 898211*, according to Helpline officials.

If local resources and information is needed, text your 5-digit ZIP code to 898211*.

“Often times people in need of assistance don’t know where to go or who to turn to in times of difficulty and crisis,” said Tiana Purvis, HelpLine associate director. “The confidential text-messaging service offers a convenient and fast way for people to get support and assistance that can effectively help.”

The information and referral text service can provide resources, including human service agencies, food and shelter providers, child care resources, services for senior citizens, volunteer opportunities, and county and city information.

The crisis support text service, officials say, offers non-judgmental emotional support and problem solving around issues, such as sexual assault, financial stress, domestic violence, child and elder abuse or neglect, depression, suicide, grief and loss, and mental health issues.

“This new service is one more way HelpLine is connecting people in our community,” Purvis said. “We expect this service to reach those who may not be comfortable calling our hot line, have not traditionally reached out for help, or whom seek a more discreet interaction. Texting for local supports with experienced specialists puts information easily and conveniently at your fingertips. We are excited to offer this new service and expand our reach in the community.”
