Sunbury’s Big Nut Strut run/walk will be on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Organizers Cindy Erndt and Teresa Dronsfield appeared before Sunbury Village Council on July 15 to discuss several items. They asked for, and received, council’s nod of approval for the Oct. 4 date.
Big Nut Strut, a five-kilometer run/walk that benefits Big Walnut Local School District’s elementary PTOs, is staged in the General Rosecrans Elementary School parking lot, but uses village streets as a race course.
Erndt and Dronsfield also asked if Vernon Street and Granville Street could be closed earlier in the evening the Friday night before the Saturday, Aug. 22, Sunbury Sizzle & Sounds.
Dronsfield said that in past years the street closing was so late that event crews were up most of the night assembling the stage, then had to be back at the square early in the morning to kick off the event.
“We always check with businesses before the street closing,” Dronsfield said. “We would like to close the street about 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. and start putting the stage up.”
Dronsfield said this year’s Sunbury Sizzle & Sound would feature Lt Dan’s New Legs, Southwynd, a Michael Jackson impersonator and a country cover band.
Council members approved the earlier stage assembly, with a caveat that night traffic could find a way around the square.
In other village business, council member Dave Miller said he has had complaints about the contracted Regional Income Tax Agency that collects village residents’ income taxes for a fee. Miller said residents with village income tax questions could not easily access RITA.
Village fiscal officer Kathy Belcher said she is the contact person for residents with income tax questions.
Council will meet again on July 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the third-floor council chambers of Town Hall.
