OhioHealth making upgrades in Delaware County

OhioHealth, which includes Grady Memorial Hospital, has other facilities in construction and new projects on the way in the county.

“As part of the community, OhioHealth continues to invest, whether it’s in Grady Memorial Hospital or all of its Delaware County facilities, all the way down to the Westerville Medical Campus, and the Delaware Health Center,” said director of growth and business development Scott Schroeder at a Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week. “Improving the access to health care services is really important to the people of OhioHealth.”

The most outwardly visible investment is a combined Nationwide Children’s Hospital and OhioHealth facility in Lewis Center, which is expected to open in early 2017. The 70,000-square-foot outpatient care center will house separate emergency rooms for children and adults, specialty clinics, developmental therapies and lab services for children. The five-acre, $16.5 million building is at 7774 Columbus Pike and Gooding Boulevard, just below the new MC Fitness & Health complex by Mount Carmel Health System.

“You see this building coming up out of the ground,” Schroeder said. “This is a unique partnership combining emergency services.”

Last week, Delaware City Council approved a cancer-building addition to the Delaware Health Center. The one-story, 7,160 square-foot oncology radiation building would be along the eastern wall of the existing 60,320 square-foot building, at the northeast corner of OhioHealth Boulevard and Glenn Parkway. The building will house a linear accelerator, which sends a beam of high-energy X-rays to tumors for cancer radiation treatment. Council was told the building was designed by physicists to prevent X-ray accidents.

The improvements extend to Grady Memorial Hospital, Schroeder said, ranging from the cafeteria to the surgical area.

“People ask me what OhioHealth has done since Grady has joined (our) family. Since 2006, OhioHealth has invested $55 million in capital improvements inside Grady,” he said.

The Grady website said the hospital’s services include brain and spine care, cancer care, emergency and trauma, heart and vascular, imaging, laboratory services, maternity care, orthopedics, pain management, pastoral care, rehabilitation, sleep disorders, surgery and wound care.

Delaware County Commissioner Jeff Benton attributed OhioHealth’s investments due to the county’s growth, health, wealth, youth and education.
