Schultz Elementary School students hold up a sign for Denise Fleming, an award-winning author of more than 20 children’s books, during her visit at Willis Intermediate School on Tuesday. Students from the district’s elementary schools came to Willis to hear Fleming talk about writing and illustrating her books. Fleming told the students they can find inspirations and ideas from all around them and showed them how several of her books are about her own pets or other animals near her house. School officials said elementary school students have read many of Fleming’s books in class to prepare for her visit.
