The Ohio School Board Association’s Central Region recognized Big Walnut Intermediate School’s science program during its March 9 spring conference at Villa Milano in Columbus.

At the state OSBA convention November, Big Walnut Intermediate students who earned superior ratings with their projects during the May 2015 State Science Day at OSU were present, discussing their projects and their experiences with the intermediate school’s science program.

That November OSBA student showcase, titled “Scientists Rock,” drew students from more than 100 Ohio school districts of all sizes.

“Our intermediate school students have had great success in science fair participation in recent years,” explained intermediate school science teacher Rina Hoge. “Three sixth-grade students who scored superior at State Science Day as fifth-graders last year were selected by teachers to represent BWI at the statewide student showcase.”

Hoge said the student ambassadors, Kailyn Merkel, Jenna Austin and Christopher Lee, also represented their school during the OSBA Central Region spring conference at Villa Milano.

“All three students, in addition to 39 others from the intermediate school, advanced to this year’s annual Central District Science Day at Columbus State,” Hoge said. “We’re proud of the effort of all intermediate school students who have contributed to our continued success in the field of science.”

Fourteen counties comprise the Ohio School Boards Association Central Region: Crawford, Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway, Richland, Ross and Union.
