City water main to be replaced

Contractors for the city of Delaware will undertake a water main replacement project along Park Avenue, between Washington Street and Curtis Street, starting Thursday, July 30.

Work by Ours Excavation will continue through Nov. 1.

The city is replacing a water main that has a history of seven breaks dating back to 2007 and most recently in 2014. Water service interruptions will be necessary and notices will be made 24 hours in advance to the affected residents, city officials said.

After the new water main has been installed and placed into service, pavement and turf restoration will take place.

While every attempt will be made to keep construction disturbance to a minimum, area residents may experience road closures, traffic delays, restricted street parking and increased noise during regular business hours, officials said.

Appropriate road closure signage and related traffic control devices will be in place. The city will make every effort to provide 24 hours advance notice of any non-emergency water shutdown, but residents may experience short periods of no water service, officials said.

Public questions may be directed to the city’s public utilities department, 740-203-1904. Residents also can follow the project on Twitter and on the city’s Facebook page.
