The Delaware Area Career Center Board of Education will hold a special meeting Monday to hear presentations from three construction companies that want to be hired to consolidate the board’s two campuses.
The meeting will be held at the South Campus, 4565 Columbus Pike, at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, the first of two community forums on the planned consolidation will be Tuesday evening.
According to the board’s agenda, the three construction companies presenting at the Monday meeting will be Turner Construction Co., based out of Worthington; Elford Inc., based out of Columbus; and Gilbane Building Co, which has offices in Westerville and Columbus.
Turner will give its presentation from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. followed by Elford from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. Gilbane will give its presentation from 8:30 to 9:15 p.m.
After the presentations, the board will go into executive session, school officials said.
The company will be chosen at a later date.
Career Center officials announced the consolidation earlier this year, after a year-long study of both campuses that included community focus groups. The board decided to close the North Campus and move its programs to the South Campus.
Officials have stressed that no programs will be closed due to the consolidation. In order to accommodate the additional students and programs, though, there will be a $35 million renovation and expansion of the South Campus. Without a consolidation, $23 million in upgrades would be needed for both of the 40-year-old buildings, officials have said.
Two community forums are planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the South Campus and 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at the North Campus, 1610 State Route 521. There will also be two Facebook online discussions: at 2 p.m. Aug. 13 and at 10 a.m. Aug. 31 at www.facebook.com/delawareareacc.
Once the improvements have been made to the South Campus, the North Campus building and property will be sold, but continue to be maintained, officials have said.
The project is expected to be completed in time for the 2018-19 school year.
