Delaware police report:

A man threw a beer can at his girlfriend’s car Tuesday before 6 a.m. A resident observed an argument between the woman and her boyfriend, and watched the man throw the can. However, when police arrived, the boyfriend had left. However, police later received a call about the same man kicking in someone’s door at an address across the city. Once again, the man had left by the time officers arrived. He was later located by officers and issued a summons to appear in Delaware Municipal Court to face a charge of disorderly conduct.

A prisoner briefly escaped police custody Tuesday afternoon. The man had been brought from the Delaware County Jail to Delaware Municipal Court for a hearing. But while the man was in a holding cell, he tampered with the sprinkler head and caused the fire suppression system to start discharging water. A municipal court bailiff removed him from his cell to take him away from the sprinkler and he ran from the bailiff. He was found moments later by officers in the area of East Central Avenue and U.S. 23. He was taken into custody and charged with escape, vandalism and resisting arrest. Police added that the fire suppression system caused significant damage to all three floors of the justice center.
