The Delaware Board of Education appointed a new principal at Carlisle Elementary at its meeting Monday.

The board approved the employment of Paula Vertikoff to take over as the principal at Carlisle Elementary School next school year. Vertikoff will begin as principal on July 18 and will be paid an annual salary of $84,101.

Vertikoff was announced as the district’s candidate in an email to Carlisle parents on April 20. Superintendent Paul Craft said Vertikoff is currently serving as the assistant principal at Indian Trail Elementary in Canal Winchester.

Craft said she has also worked as an instructional support coach and a kindergarten teacher at Dublin City Schools.

Vertikoff will replace Renae Schwartz, the current principal at Carlisle. The board voted to approve Schwartz’s resignation at its April 11 board meeting. School officials report that Schwartz has accepted a principal position in another district closer to where she lives. Schwartz has been the principal at Carlisle for three years, officials said.

The board also approved a number of other hires, including Caitlin Duffy, a teacher at Hayes; Diana Sanfillipo, a home instructor for the district; Jenee Carr, a transportation worker; and Bryan Shoffner, the assistant head custodian at Smith Elementary School.

The board accepted a number of resignations, including Pamela Brigode, a cook and cashier at Dempsey Middle School; Sophia Whitehouse, a school psychologist for the district; Alyson Baker, a teacher at Smith Elementary School; and Jennifer Codrea and Michelle Oberfield, intervention specialists for the district.

The board also approved a number of one-year and two-year contracts for various staff members throughout the district. The board also approved 14 employee contracts for the 2016 summer crew.

The board approved a trip to the state wrestling championship for wrestlers from Delaware Hayes High School.
