A 15-year-old Berlin Township girl came home Wednesday afternoon and found a man in a black ski mask inside her house.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office detectives on Thursday were asking Galena-area residents to contact them if they have home security video that might help identify the intruder.

The 15-year-old girl was returning to her Cheshire subdivision home in Berlin Township when she discovered the intruder Wednesday afternoon, deputies said.

Deputies said she fled her home and went to a neighbor’s house where she called police. The girl was unharmed.

A post on the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page said the girl responded in a “brave and appropriate manner” and urged anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page stated that investigators were looking for help identifying the intruder and hoped that anyone in the Cheshire subdivision area with home security systems or anyone who saw something suspicious Wednesday could contact them at 740-833-2891.

Officials said the man was wearing a red hoodie and a black mask during the encounter.

Originally, deputies suspected an abduction attempt, but officials said Thursday on Facebook that they believe it may have been a burglary in progress.
