The second annual “Art For Your Ears” music event this weekend will be at a new location.
From 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 14, “Art For Your Ears” will be held at the Women’s City Club, 135 N. Franklin St. Last year’s event had live music on Sandusky Street, while this year’s event is more exclusive in the Northwest Neighborhood.
For $26, attendees will get a barbecue meal, and two drink tickets. The entertainment will feature disc jockey Suzy Waud and her “Waudever, Wherever” show, with music from the 1970s and 1980s. Longtime Columbus radio listeners may remember Waud yelling “Friday” on local rock and pop stations, but now she yells it on her regular internet “Waudcast.” There will also be a “Wine Pull” and a silent auction.
All of the profits from “Art For Your Ears” will go towards the Women’s City Club’s “Windows of Opportunity” campaign, an attempt to replace or repair all the doors and windows in the historic home it owns and uses to house women. The club’s website said windows cost between $250 and $2,500.
The Women’s City Club Foundation of Delaware is putting on the event. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit service organization, the foundation has served single women in Delaware County since 1954.
“We house low-income women who really don’t have another place to go,” said Jo Ingles, Women’s City Club spokeswoman, in a prior interview with The Gazette. “These are the women who fall through the cracks of the government safety net. They don’t qualify for housing anywhere else. Oftentimes, they are on the street when they come to us. We help them while they’re getting job training, working, trying to better their skills. We get them through a rough point and they move on.”
“We’ve helped thousands of women transition from the hard blows life had dealt them to become independent, successful women,” said the Women’s City Club website. “Some have even gone on to later become members of the club.”
