The Central Ohio Symphony’s second annual Summer Solstice Music Festival will kick off with a concert in Delaware’s Northwest Neighborhood.
The festival run the week of June 19 through June 26, and feature small ensemble performances throughout Delaware County.
This year Delaware’s Northwest Neighborhood Association is partnering with the symphony, Delaware County Community Market, Delaware Artist Guild, Ohio Pastel Artists League, the SourcePoint painting group and Austin Manor to open the symphony’s festival and art show events on the grounds between Ohio Wesleyan University’s Austin Manor and Sanborn Hall on Sunday, June 19, from 3 to 7:30 p.m.
The symphony’s music festival will open at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19, with a concert in partnership with the Northwest Neighborhood Association. The concert will be conducted by symphony music director Jaime Morales-Matos, who will also be performing as guest artist. The symphony ensemble will be on the Monett lawn outside of Sanborn Hall on Elizabeth Street. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will move inside Sanborn Hall.
This summer, the Northwest Neighborhood will be pre-selling boxed meals from the Delaware County Community Market for $10 each. Proceeds will be split between the Central Ohio Symphony and the Northwest Neighborhood Association. Meals can be purchased online at www.delawarenna.org in advance of the concert. Ordering will continue until June 12. Food will delivered to the venue at 5 p.m.
The Delaware Artist Guild, Ohio Pastel Artists League and SourcePoint painting group will be featured artists at the Austin Manor art show that will be on June 19 from 3 to 7 pm. Proceeds from this event will go to the Central Ohio Symphony.

This year’s event will be even more dynamic with the addition of the art show and boxed meals available for pre-order. We encourage everyone to bring lawn chairs or a blanket and make it a family picnic.”
Warren Hyer, executive director of the Central Ohio Symphony, said: “We are excited to be teaming with the NNA to open the 2016 Summer Solstice Festival. This will be exciting music for everyone, and a great chance for the audience to meet our musicians and conductor on a more informal basis.”
“We are hoping to have 15 to 20 artists showing all kinds of art from paintings to crafts,” said Ray Wollschleger, the art show organizer. “The artists are all local from the Delaware area. We hope this is the start of a yearly event. It should be a fun afternoon of art, food and music.”
