Cheese shop to open in downtown

The Greater Gouda, a specialty grocery featuring cheese and fine foods, has announced that its grand opening will be on Friday and Saturday, June 17-18.

Located at 12 N. Sandusky St., Ohio, the Greater Gouda will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.

“We think of the Greater Gouda as a country cheese shop with a gourmet touch,” said owner Mark Smiles.

More than 80 types of cheese will be available, as well as sliced-to-order Italian meats, jams, old-fashioned candies, pastas, sauces and snacks. Products are planned to change over time, based on the season and requests from customers.

Customer input is important to the new business.

“We selected the flavors of Jeni’s Ice Cream to carry after running a survey on social media to find out which are likely to be popular in this area,” said co-owner Terri-Lynne Smiles.

The owners also plan a monthly “Gouda Gives Back” day when a percentage of its receipts will be donated to a local charity.

“We’re part of the Delaware family,” Terri-Lynne Smiles said. “That means we need to help those in need as well as serve those who love good food.”
