‘Evening of Stars’

As part of its “Century of Cinema Celebration,” the Strand Theatre hosted a red carpet event — “Evening of Stars” — on Saturday night.

Guests walked down a red carpet that theater workers later rolled up to reveal the newly redone sidewalk underneath.

The theater added 15 engraved stars, Hollywood style, in the sidewalk to honor the donors that keep the 100-year-old downtown Delaware theater alive.

The star donors made a minimum donation or commitment of at least $25,000.

Among those honored were:

• Peter and Joni Brown.

• Chesrown Chevrolet Buick GMC.

• City of Delaware.

• Delaware County.

• Delaware County Bank.

• Marianne Gabel and Donald Lateiner.

• The Hilborn family/Hilborn Insurance.

• Maloney + Novotny, LLC.

• Diane C. Manos, MD.

• OhioHealth.

• Ohio Wesleyan University.

• Ron Sabatino.

• Mark and Ginny Shipps.

• Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.

• Suburban Natural Gas Co.

Guests got a chance to bid on donated prize packages at a silent auction as well as see the premiere screening of a documentary made about the history of the theater. Bill Reynolds of Wild Bill Productions produced and directed the Strand documentary.

All the proceeds go to the theater’s renovation projects. This includes getting better seats, restrooms and screening equipment.

Members of the nonprofit Strand Theatre and Cultural Arts Association Board and other members of the community look to the renewal of the Strand Theatre as a key in continuing the redevelopment of downtown Delaware and a stimulant to economic growth in central Ohio.

The 25,000-square-foot theater is one of the 10 longest-operating movie theaters in the United States, as well as one of the few independent movie theaters showing first-run films.
