Eight townships and two cities will participate in Delaware County’s annual Ohio Public Works Commission grant matching program.

The program is designed to maximize the possibility of political subdivisions being awarded the grant by pairing their funds with county funds to increase the local match.

The county matches funding up to $50,000.

“It lessens the burden on some of the local agencies that, frankly, have a difficult time coming up with local matching funds,” said Rob Riley, the county’s chief deputy engineer.

Delaware is one of six counties in an Ohio Public Works Commission district that shares about $9 million in grant funding for public works projects each year.

“Historically we have had good success in bringing a lot of that money back to Delaware County,” said Riley.

All but one of the projects – in Orange Township – are road resurfacing.

• Berkshire Township has requested funding to resurface Dustin Road.

• Genoa Township has requested funding to resurface Medallion Drive West.

• Berlin Township has requested funding to resurface Curve Road.

• Brown Township has requested funding to resurface Hogback Road.

• Kingston Township has requested funding to resurface Blue Church Road.

• Harlem Township has requested funding to resurface Trenton Road.

• Liberty Township has requested funding to resurface Sawmill Road. The city of Powell is also on the application.

• The city of Delaware has requested funding to resurface North Sandusky Street and Park Avenue.

• Orange Township has requested funding to widen Bale Kenyon Road from Orange Road to Lewis Center Road. The total cost of the project is $2.1 million. The project will be done in conjunction with other road improvements the county plans to make in the area, according to Beth Hugh, the county’s maintenance and parks director.
