Charges have been filed against a Sugarcreek, Ohio, man in connection with a traffic crash that killed two Delaware residents on Aug. 2.

Jeremy Sloan, 33, was driving a semi-truck the morning of Aug. 2 when he ran the red light at the intersection of U.S. 36/ State Route 37 and Ohio 521, police allege. Once in the intersection, he hit a 2014 Honda CRV occupied by Anthony M. Marsello, 82, and his wife, Nancy J. Marsello, 78, both of 22 Snowberry Drive, Delaware.

Police said the CRV was propelled across the intersection, and went into a spin before it came to rest in a ditch in front of the Glenwood Commons shopping center.

Mr. Marsello was transported via helicopter to OSU Wexner Medical Center while Mrs. Marsello was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital by Delaware firefighters. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Grady.

Mr. Marsello died from his injuries later that day.

Police filed no charges at the time of the accident, but said Tuesday that Sloan had been charged with a failing to stop for a red traffic signal and two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Sloan is scheduled to appear in Delaware Municipal Court on Sept. 21 for an arraignment on the charges.

The crash report says Sloan sustained an injury to his knee but refused treatment. The crash report also states that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.

Sloan told officers he had been traveling at 40 mph at the time of the crash, just over the posted speed limit of 35 mph.

Sloan is a driver for Gordon Milk Transport in Sugarcreek.
