The Olentangy Local School District has started the search process for a new treasurer.

Brian Kern will move into the same position at Dublin City Schools after working for Olentangy since 2013. He was hired by the Dublin school board July 11 will begin his tenure as Dublin schools treasurer on Sept. 1.

“He’s an excellent school treasurer,” said Olentangy Superintendent Mark Raiff. “He did a good job for us for three years.”

The Olentangy school board decided to find a new treasurer with the help of three employee-search firms during a special meeting Monday evening, Raiff said.

The board will accept Kern’s resignation letter and hear proposals from each firm at its regular meeting on Aug. 4.

“I have every confidence that we’ll find a great treasurer,” Raiff said. “The board fully embraces this responsibility.”

“Mr. Kern has done an outstanding job for Olentangy and we are sad to see him go,” said Olentangy school board president Dave King. “His fiscal leadership has been integral to the district’s many accomplishments over the past several years, including passage of our March ballot issue and the recent upgrade in the district’s bond rating. We wish him well. Filling this very important role will be a priority. Olentangy has a long history of financial responsibility, and we are committed to maintaining that high standard.”

Before Olentangy, Kern served Dublin schools for 10 years, including as an accountant from 2003 to 2007 and assistant treasurer from 2007 to 2013. He replaces outgoing Dublin treasurer Stephen Osborne.

“We are excited and thrilled to be able to bring Brian back to our district in the role of treasurer/chief financial officer,” said Dublin school board president Lynn May. “His depth of experience, proven track record of taxpayer dollars stewardship, his private sector experience, and his knowledge of our district put us in a great position to move forward.”

Kern worked for the State Auditor’s Office from 1996-2001, serving as assistant auditor and auditor in charge. He has private sector experience with Haran, Watson & Company Inc. He served as an Ohio Association of School Business Officials officer from 2009-2013 and has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and public administration from Heidelberg College.

“I look forward to this new partnership with Brian and continuing to build upon one of the best school districts in the United States,” said Dublin Superintendent Todd Hoadley. “Brian will be a great asset to our district and will help us meet our challenges while maximizing our opportunities.”
