Shade Tree Commission to review plans

The city of Delaware’s Shade Tree Commission will review four development plans at the Ohio Army National Guard building, 1121 S. Houk Road, tonight.

The commission will review pool house and recreation facility plans for the Communities at Glenross, sections 8 through 10, located on the north side of Cheshire Road between the Glenross Golf Course and the railroad. In August, City Council approved amendments to the preliminary development plan and subdivision plat for sections 6-10, which total 166 single-family lots with sections 6 and 7 now under construction.

Commissioners will review the development plan for the addition of a parking lot and children’s play area at Londontown Apartments, 300 Chelsea St.

Plan reviews for a section of the Heatherton subdivision and at Henderson Trucking, 124 Henderson Court, are informational. No further information was available.

In other business, the city removed six trees in July because of mortality issues and storm damage, according to the July 2016 arborist report. Highlights of the report include 243 street trees pruned; the development of an action plan to address the current backlog of 293 street trees to plant; city consideration of hiring an outside contractor to perform street clearance pruning on a five-year rotation schedule; and the development of an memorandum of understanding between the city and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

The city of Delaware started a partnership with the Powell-based zoo’s “Browse Program” to provide tree clippings as a food source for animals. In July, the zoo has picked up three more loads of limbs that the city pruned in coordination with requests for tree clearance pruning on Executive Boulevard and Orchard Canyon Drive.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m.
