Second ‘Benefit in the Barn’ Aug. 20

Delaware County Farm Bureau is hosting the second annual “Benefit in the Barn, A Symphony on the Farm” on Aug. 20.

All proceeds from the “celebration of agriculture and music” will benefit partners of the Delaware County Hunger Alliance.

Guests will enjoy a Central Ohio Symphony concert, complete with dinner, Ohio beer, wine and surprises throughout the night, organizers say. The event will take place on Hardscrabble Farms at 2514 Skinner Road in Delaware, operated by the Skinner family for more than a century.

Benefit in the Barn proceeds will go to Delaware County Hunger Alliance, an organization committed to increasing access to fresh produce, food pantries, meals for the homebound, and nutrition education. Last year the concert generated a donation of $20,000 in support of alleviating hunger in the Delaware community.

This year Delaware County Foundation’s Robert Weiler Family Fund and Charles H. and Betty J. Sheets Fund donated $10,000 in sponsoring the event. Other sponsors include Delaware County Bank, Trillum Farms, Davis Seed, OhioHealth, Poet Grain and SFM Insurance.

Tickets include a picnic-style dinner — compliments of All Occasions Catering — beginning at 6 p.m., then a performance by the Central Ohio Symphony to follow from 7:30 p.m. until dusk. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for open seating in the barnyard. Tents will be provided in the event of inclement weather. Handicapped parking will be available.

To purchase tickets, go online to BenefitintheBarn.org. General admission is $30 per ticket and includes the concert and dinner. Farm bureau members will receive a $5 discount per ticket when entering their farm bureau member numbers.

Tickets are limited, so organizers encourage buying them early.
