Olentangy board to discuss treasurer search

The search for a new school treasurer and approving funds for the fourth high school will be part of the discussion at the Olentangy Board of Education meeting today.

Outgoing Treasurer Brian Kern will move into the same position at Dublin City Schools after working for Olentangy since 2013. He was hired by the Dublin school board July 11 and will begin his tenure as Dublin schools treasurer on Sept. 1.

“He’s an excellent school treasurer,” said Olentangy Superintendent Mark Raiff. “He did a good job for us for three years.”

The board will hear presentations from three search firms: Education Service Center of Central Ohio, Ohio Association of School Business Officials, and the Ohio School Boards Association.

Olentangy Assistant Treasurer Emily Hatfield is expected to be appointed at tonight’s meeting as interim treasurer as of Sept. 1, pending selection of a permanent treasurer. She would receive an additional $5,000 to her current salary.

Aside from human resource matters, the board is expected to approve a contract sum of $22,101,488 in guaranteed maximum price with Gilbane Building Co. for the fourth high school project, specifically for the masonry, concrete, structural steel and roofing packages to be completed next year.

At its last meeting, the board approved a contract sum of $6,755,053 to Gilbane Building Co. That amount is a fraction of the $54 million in construction costs.

Gilbane Building works with the vendors working on the project on behalf of the school district. Ground was broken on the yet-to-be-named high school along Berlin Station Road on June 9.

Today’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the district’s administrative offices on Shanahan Road in Lewis Center.
