American Legion Post 457 post members have installed Scott Bloch as the new post commander.

Former post commander Roy Terry left the position open when he was selected to fill the position of Ohio’s American Legion District 6 second vice commander.

Bloch, a 10-year member of Post 457, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Bloch was stationed at the Army’s night vision laboratory at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, when he mustered out of the service.

“I’m humbled to be allowed to carry on the responsibilities of growing this post,” Bloch said following the installation ceremony on June 23. “I’d like to help our post become a major partner with the Big Walnut-area community.”

Terry served for 30 years with the Ohio Army National Guard, rising to an operations sergeant major with the 16th Engineers Brigade in Columbus before retirement.

“During the time I was post commander here, I felt we accomplished a lot,” Terry said. “With Scott taking over as commander, I feel like Post 457 is in good hands. I’ve always considered our post a good member of this community. People could call us, and no matter what they needed, our members would show up and get the job done.”
