The Central Ohio Symphony is preparing to launch its 38th season with Jaime Morales-Matos on the podium for his 14th year on as conductor of the ensemble.

“Season 38 will offer concertgoers new musical experiences at every concert,” said executive director Warren W. Hyer.

“Bruce Murray of Miami University will open the season with two piano concertos, one by Mozart and the other by Shostakovich,” Hyer said. “We will also present Ohio’s only performance this season of ‘Dreamtime Ancestors’ by Christopher Theofanidis, a New Music for America work commissioned by the Central Ohio Symphony and 38 other orchestras.

“We will have central Ohio Celtic band Lone Raven join us for the holidays, the first time we have ever featured Celtic music for the holidays. Later in the season we will have the U.S. premiere of an new arrangement of ‘Carnival of the Animals’ by Richard Blackford.

“Our finale concert in April will be ‘Hear Ohio’ presented by PNC Arts Alive. Everything we play that night will either be composed by Ohio composers or be performed by Ohio guest artists, ranging from Ohio composer Clint Needham’s ‘We Are All From Somewhere Else,’ which uses the words of people from all over the world who have made Ohio their home to Ohio composer Paul John Stanbery’s ‘Music for Mass,’ which will take guest choirs from Ohio Wesleyan (University), handbells, organ, baritone voice and audience participation.”
