A Delaware man was sentenced to two years in prison Friday for two counts of gross sexual imposition.

Michael Frederick Grubbs, 50, formerly of 88 Carriage Drive, was in court Friday afternoon for a sentencing hearing after he was found guilty of four counts of gross sexual imposition, following a trial that began on Aug. 25 and lasted six days.

Grubbs was convicted of touching two girls under the age of 10 in a sexual manner in December 2014. Grubbs’ four charges were merged to two counts of gross sexual imposition at sentencing.

Delaware County Common Pleas Judge Everett Krueger sentenced Grubbs to two years of prison for each charge and stipulated that they be served concurrently. Grubbs will also be classified as a Tier 2 sex offender for 25 years after he is released from prison and cannot live within 1,000 feet of a school or daycare business.

The victims’ family testified at the trial and said that the girls have suffered serious psychological harm and will be in counseling for a long time. Assistant prosecuting attorney Mark Sleeper said that the girls have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Krueger credited Grubbs the 269 days he has spent in prison since his arrest on Dec. 31. Grubbs was arrested after police received a sexual assault report at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Grubbs maintained his innocence at his hearing and asked to have a public defender appointed to handle an appeal.
