Main Street Delaware holds first Farm to Table meal Saturday

Folks who regularly attend Main Street Delaware’s weekly farmers market can try something new this Saturday — a meal in the middle of Sandusky Street.

Twenty tables, set with vintage linens and covered overhead by tents, will seat 160 people for a boxed lunch provided by 1o downtown restaurants for Main Street Delaware’s first “Farm to Table” event.

“A lot of our local restaurants have started to use local goods and produce in their regular daily menus, and with the growth of the farmers market, we kind of thought it would be nice to institute a new fundraiser this year,” said Frances Jo Hamilton, executive director of the non-profit organization, which also puts on the monthly First Friday events. “The desserts will be provided by a local baker from our farmers market, and little veggie plates provided by the farmers from the farmers market. It’s a culmination of everyone putting together a nice meal.”

The farmers market will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with lunch at 11 a.m. There will be music provided by members of the Delaware Music Academy.

“We just started thinking about some new ideas and ways to better highlight the farm market vendors who have been coming ever since 1999, when we started the market,” Hamilton said. “It’s such a huge contribution to the downtown. This is just a nice way for them to feel a little more included in Main Street. It should be a really beautiful event.”

Tickets cost $25 at the Main Street office at 20 E. Winter St. or at Button Up, 29 N. Sandusky St.

Hamilton said the farmers market ends Oct. 24.
