Two Delaware men were given prison sentences in connection with an April incident where they robbed a Delaware man who was giving them a ride.

Derek James Hill, 26,; Phillip A. Williams, 49; and Cara Judith Grimes, 23; all Delaware residents, were indicted in April and charged with aggravated robbery, first-degree felonies and scheduled for trial on Aug. 2.

However, before the case could go to trial all three pleaded guilty to charges in Delaware County Common Pleas Court and were scheduled for separate sentencing hearings.

Delaware police report on April 15 that Spenser Cramer, 22, of Delaware, came to the lobby of the police department and reported that he had given a ride to a woman he knows, Grimes, and two men he didn’t know, Hill and Williams.

Cramer said that during the ride the men threatened to seriously harm or shoot him and robbed him of several items he had in his car. Police report the items were $1,500 in Hollywood Casino chips, a cellphone worth $200, a Nintendo 3DS worth $335 and headphones worth $250, as well as $500 in cash.

Police said Cramer was unharmed after the incident.

Williams appeared in court on Aug. 29 for a sentencing hearing after he pleaded guilty to a less included offense of robbery, a third-degree felony. At the hearing, Delaware County Common Pleas Judge Everett Krueger sentenced him to two years in prison.

Hill appeared in court on Sept. 12 to be sentenced on an identical lesser included robbery offense and was sentenced to three years in prison by Krueger.

Krueger also ordered Hill and Williams to pay $500 of restitution to Cramer.

Grimes was scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 12 but her attorney, Christopher Burchinal, filed a motion asking for the sentencing to be delayed because he was not able to attend the hearing due to another matter. Krueger granted the motion and scheduled a new sentencing hearing for Oct. 3 at 2:30 p.m.

Williams has begun serving his sentence but Grimes and Hill are still in the Delaware County Jail.
