City reveals latest transportation plan

Delaware City Council is expected to receive a final version of its 2016 transportation plan, which is dependent upon the outcome of a income tax levy issue in the upcoming November election.

The version has 60 proposed projects including nine priority projects identified and publicized by the city as part of its “Moving Delaware Forward” initiative to revamp its transportation system.

Voters are asked to approve to increase the tax from 1.85 percent to 2 percent, which would generate an additional $2.2 million annually spent for projects and road maintenance and resurfacing.

The original plan was started in 2001 with that last update in 2004. Some projects were removed from the list because they were no longer deemed viable, according to Bill Ferrigno, director of public works/city engineer.

“We’re trying to keep some projects that are feasible that are attainable in a 20-year horizon,” he said during Tuesday’s Public Works/Utilities Committee meeting.

Ferrigno provided The Gazette in July a draft list of the 2016 transportation plan’s roadway improvement projects. Since then minor changes have been made for the current version.
