Dog show planned next weekend

The Delaware Ohio Kennel Club is hosting a dog show Oct. 28-30.

The club plans a weekend of canine competition, consisting of a 4-H Canine Clinic, and two AKC approved All-Breed Dog Shows. The events are held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, Coliseum 236 Pennsylvania Ave.

On Friday, the Canine 4H Clinics start at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday events begin at 8 a.m. and conclude late afternoon. This year’s entry is over 1,000 dogs of 145 different breeds & varieties each day; all competing for the Best In Show award.

“Again this year, we are offering the National Owner Handler Series, Best Puppy and Best Junior Handler, competitions. These events provide an excellent opportunity for the canine enthusiast to obtain information about their favorite breed, from professional breeders. Exhibitors and spectators are also invited to shop for various canine equipment and related items from our vendors,” a news release states.

The 4-H Dog Committee is hosting a 4-H Junior Showmanship clinic at 6 p.m. in the fairgrounds Coliseum. Limited Canine Good Citizenship testing will also be available, on a first come first serve basis. The clinics are open to all juniors and their dogs. Heart of Ohio Sussex Spaniel Club, Saturday.

Portions of the shows’ proceeds are donated to various local community canine projects such as the Delaware County 4H Dog Committee, Delaware County Sheriffs’ canine deputies and the Delaware Ohio Kennel Club Veterinary Scholarship Fund.

The DOKC Veterinary Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to qualifying Delaware County students attending Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. The 2016-2017 recipient of the scholarship is Melissa Glick.
