Grant pays for Genoa Township park improvements

Freedom Park in Genoa Township now has an enhanced picnic area that is ADA- compliant, thanks to a grant given by the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Parks manager Ron Keil accepted a plaque last week from DCBDD in honor of the event.

The park has undergone a recent renovation with a newly created basketball court and several new playground apparatus additions.

“This was a virgin project and we will expand,” said Keil, referring to the ADA-accessible picnic area. “We like to see everyone out and enjoying our parks. It creates unity and we are grateful for this collaboration.”

Keil previously applied for a community grant given by the board. The grant is offered to businesses and community partners to make renovations that will increase accessibility for their patrons with disabilities.

The gift allowed for the purchase of three accessible picnic tables for the new picnic area.

Kris Hodge, superintendent of the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities, attended the brief ceremony, along with board members and Genoa Township trustees.
