The city of Delaware received $43,729 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ NatureWorks grant program for Glenross Park improvements.

The city will use the funds for the nearly $80,000 project to install a mound, 60 trees, seeding, staking, soil hauling and grading at the park located east side of Glenn Parkway and north of Cheshire Road. ODNR has approved more than $14.9 million in project funding through various grant programs to improve outdoor recreational opportunities for Ohioans all across that state.

“By pursuing additional opportunities for Ohioans to enjoy the outdoors, these communities are investing in their overall health and in preserving the outdoor experience for our kids and grand kids,” said ODNR Director James Zehringer. “ODNR is proud to partner with the park districts, counties, cities and towns in Ohio that seek to create more outdoor recreational activities for the people in their communities.”

Delaware’s grant was among 89 NatureWorks state grants approved by ODNR totaling nearly $3 million to develop and improve public access for outdoor recreation facilities across Ohio. Projects will include the development or improvement of 23 playgrounds, 11 park restrooms, eight shelters, 18 ball fields, tennis courts and basketball courts, 14 trails, two splash pads and pool components and more.

Parks and Natural Resources Director Ted Miller welcomed the news about the grant.

“It’s going to be a big benefit for that area,” he said.

Miller said the city met with the Glenross community in September. There may be another phase to the project based on their comments, he said.
