The Delaware Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at approximately 8:44 p.m. Friday on Interstate 71 near milepost 129 in Berkshire Township.

Ayani Joy Buckmon, 18, of Alliance, Ohio, was driving a taupe 2002 Chevy Tracker southbound on Interstate 71 in the right lane. The vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway, lost control striking a ditch, tree, and fence before overturning and coming to final rest. Miss Buckmon sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Buckmon had one passenger in her vehicle, Dakota James Ring, age 18, of Sebring, Ohio. Mr. Ring was transported to Grant Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Genoa Township Fire Department, BST&G Fire Department, Tri Township Fire Department and Delaware County EMS.

Buckmon was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
