Veterans to visit Orange middle

0

More than 100 U.S. veterans will share their experiences with Olentangy Orange Middle School students Friday morning.

The annual Veterans Breakfast and Celebration event will take place at the school, 2680 E. Orange Road, 8 a.m. and feature keynote speaker will be Courtney Retzer Vargo, an occupational therapist, wife, mother and widow of Tom Retzer, a Navy SEAL killed in action. Vargo is also one of the Gold Star family ambassadors for the Navy SEAL Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports men and women of Navy Special Warfare and their families.

Students will be assigned a veteran buddy and accompany them to a breakfast put on by students, staff and parents of Olentangy Orange Middle School. The breakfast will be followed by a ceremony to honor the sacrifices made by veterans.

Following the ceremony, sixth-graders will spend the day writing letters to veterans and learning about different military branches, while seventh-graders will hear from speakers of various veterans organizations.

And more than 30 veterans and active duty service members will speak to eighth-graders.
