Rain or shine, Delaware County will honor veterans with a parade Sunday afternoon.
The city of Delaware will be hosting the parade that steps off at 3 p.m. from Ohio Wesleyan University and end at the Delaware County Fairgrounds.
The event will use Sandusky Street and Pennsylvania Avenue and will require moving closures as the parade moves along, according to city spokesman Lee Yoakum.
The Ohio National Guard’s 122nd Army Band will headline the event, while Columbus native Ron Rosser is the honorary grand marshal.
Rosser is a Congressional Medal of Honor and Purple Heart recipient from the Korean War. He joined the Army in 1946 and re-enlisted in 1951 after his younger brother died in Korea. Rosser lost another brother in the Vietnam War in 1968, the same year he retired.
“I represent all the kids that went over and fought for this country,” he said.
“This is their day.”
Rosser will be available for a meet and greet at a celebration on the fairgrounds that follows the parade and includes light refreshments.
There are about 50 veterans signed up to participate in the parade with more expected to appear at the event, according to a coordinator of the event.
