Delaware Red Cross to hold annual heroes breakfast

The 13th annual Delaware “Heroes Breakfast” will be held this Thursday, Nov. 5 at Ohio Wesleyan University’s Benes Room.

The local Red Cross chapter said the breakfast will celebrate ordinary people who performed extraordinary acts of kindness for their community by putting themselves above others. The event will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The Hero Category nominees are:

• Community Programming — Jackie Bain, of SAFE Delaware Coalition

• Healthcare Hero — Dr. Alfred Kumpf and Dan Fancy

• Workplace Hero — George Mitchell

• Community Safety — Honda of America

• First Responder Hero — Sean Worley of the Liberty Township Fire

• Healthcare Hero — Ruth Downing

• Youth Hero — Evan Lamping

• Military Hero — William Combs

• Community Hero — Elijah Campbell, EGC Landscaping of Delaware

• From The Heart Group Hero — Austin Walker, Dan Yannell, David Gilliam, PJ Titus and Dan Huffman

• Older Adult Hero — Gail Tolene

Student writing contest winners will also be recognized. They are:

• Evelyn Krauss – Grade 2

• Max Chiseler – Grade 3

• Patty B – Grade 4

• Gabriel King – Grade 9

• Emily Parrish – Grade 10

• Alexa Thrush – Grade 11

Tickets are $50 per person and include breakfast and the program.

All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross and fund critical services, including disaster relief, services to Armed Forces, and health and safety services. Tables can be purchased for $350.
