The Olentangy Local School District has a new treasurer.

The school board hired Emily K. Hatfield, who has served the district as assistant treasurer since 2014. She was appointed interim treasurer after Brian Kern resigned the position to accept the same job at Dublin City Schools.

“I would like to thank the Board of Education for selecting me as the district treasurer. I am humbled to have the opportunity to contribute to the success of our district in this manner,” she said in prepared remarks.

Hatfield has worked for the district since 2009. Prior work includes working as a financial accountant for the McDonald Corp. and has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration from Urbana University and Otterbein University, respectively. She was selected among five candidates for the treasurer position.

“Mrs. Hatfield has demonstrated – not only during our interview process, but throughout her time with the district – that she is a consummate professional committed to maintaining Olentangy’s record of strong fiscal stewardship,” said school board president Dave King.

Hatfield has a 2.5-year contract with the district starting Jan. 1 and will receive an annual salary of $125,000.

The board hired in August the Ohio School Boards Association to search for a candidate to fill the position for a charge of up to $9,500 including additional expenses such as travel.

Hatfield resides in the school district area with her husband and their two children.
