Willow Brook wing addition on Delaware City Council agenda

Delaware City Council will consider plans for an additional wing to the Willow Brook Christian Village at Delaware Run at its meeting tonight.

“The proposed new addition adds 10 more units for a total of 239 units,” states a city staff report. “The increase is the result of the demand for more one-bedroom transitional care apartments rather than two-bedroom apartments. … This would allow for consolidating the assisted living services in a more efficient design.”

There would also be an expansion to the dining room.

“We believe this to be a logical and necessary change in the evolution of Willow Brook as a leader of care services for the elderly within the Delaware community,” states a letter to the city’s planning commission from Willow Brook CEO Larry Harris and Richard Brown, president of Brown Calabretta Architects.

The city’s planning commission unanimously approved the combined preliminary and final development plan on Nov. 4. Members praised Harris for the design of the addition and the overall beauty of the facility.

Willow Brook Christian Village at Delaware Run is at 100 Delaware Crossing West on the north side of West William Street, just east of Valleyside Drive. The 47-acre site includes 56 units in 26 duplexes, 76 assisted-living units, 99 apartments and two guest suites.

Among the other items on the council’s agenda tonight is the first reading of an ordinance that would add a new chapter to city code regarding municipal income tax. The changes are required by the state after the passage of House Bill 5. There will be a public hearing on the matter at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23.

City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall, 1 S. Sandusky St.
